We stock a unique selection of coloured silk ideally suited for both the experimental and traditional stitcher. Many of our products are seldom found elsewhere, giving you the opportunity to produce a stunning piece of work and be the envy of your friends. We stock a large range of shot Silk Dupion to add just the right colour to your embroidery, patchwork or quilt. Silk Dupion is also ideal for bridesmaids’ dresses, formal gowns or for the bride who wants to venture away from ivory. Our Silk Ikat and Silk Jacquard patterned silks are similar in weight to Silk Dupion and can be used with great effect when combined with Dupion. They can also be used to construct stunning jackets.
Our small
patterned Silk Brocades and Silk
Stripes are chosen with doll making and miniature furnishing
in mind, but they can also be used to front a stunning waistcoat for a wedding
or leisure wear.

SILK DUPION
Silk Dupion is the most widely known
silk and is made in India. It has a
slub that gives it a textured effect.
The slubs in Dupion occur when two
silk worms spin cocoons together. The
degree of texture does vary from colour to
colour.
It
is stocked in a wide range of colours. Many of the coloured
Dupions are shot, making them ideal for a wide range of
applications from brides’ and bridesmaids’ dresses,
ball gowns and other formal wear. Silk Dupion is also ideal
for embroidery, patchwork, quilting, mounting lace, gold work,
etc.

As our extensive range does change with time and as it is difficult to accurately represent shot effects in a two dimensional photograph we have not provided photographs of our stock. However, please let us know your colour preference or send a suitable colour sample for matching. Whilst the majority of our range is repeatable (although there may be slight colour variations between rolls produced at different times) a few of our colours are one-off and thus stock held in uncut form of some colours may be limited. If repeat supply is essential please let us know and we will recommend the most appropriate colours accordingly. |

We supply Silk Theme Packs normally
containing 5 colour co-ordinated
pieces of Silk Dupion each approx
25cm x 25cm (10” x 10”).
(A few of our packs contain 3 pieces
of Silk Dupion and 1 piece of Ikat
or Jacquard, marked with an * below).
These are ideal for patchwork,
quilting,
embroidery,
etc.
The colours in each theme pack may vary from the pictures shown below as we put together the most suitable combination that we have at the time of cutting. Also please remember that it is difficult to represent a shot silk, which may show considerable variations in colour depending on the angle of view, in a 2 dimensional picture. Whilst the majority of our range is repeatable (although there may be slight colour variations between rolls produced at different times) a few of our colours are one-off and thus stock held in uncut form of some colours may be limited.

| SILK BROCADE
Silk
Brocade from India often has a gold or silver third thread woven in, giving a
luxuriant effect. Silk Brocades can be used to make stunning waistcoats for weddings
or other special occasions. They are also available in small designs making them
ideal for doll and dolls house use.
We
have a very wide range of Silk Brocades, examples of some are shown below.
Please note that the appearance of brocades can differ considerably depending
on the direction and intensity of the light. They are very difficult to photograph
so any fabric supplied may not exactly match these illustrations.

| SILK BROCATELLE
We also have a limited stock of Silk Brocatelle.
Silk Brocatelle is woven in the UK and has
a slightly larger pattern than silk brocade.
It is also ideal for waistcoats and can add ‘something
different’ to an embroidery or patchwork.
As it is a heavier silk it is very suitable
for cushions as well.

| SILK IKAT
Ikat is an Indian woven silk in which each thread along the warp is dyed
to its own pattern before weaving. When this is woven with
a
coloured weft
this gives shimmering soft edged patterns in subtle colours. Silk Ikat
is available in ruby, purple, turquoise, pale green and blue.

| SILK JACQUARD
Silk Jacquard,
again from India is a patterned silk. The pattern is produced as part of the
weaving process in the way that the warp threads are presented. Silk Jacquard
is available in cream, gold/cream, gold/black or red/black as shown here. Also
available is an ivory self coloured spot.

We

Stripe

stripes

METALLIC TISSUE
Silk Tissue
is an Organza type of fabric from India with coloured silk woven in one direction
and metallic thread the other. This gives a shot effect when used flat, but silk
tissue can be totally transformed by scrunching in water. Colours include orange,gold,
blue, green, purple, silver.
