This design makes a Silk Cushion in a Kantha design. The finished cushion is approximately 35 cm (14 inches) square.
Kantha is a type of quilting from India, traditionally made from discarded saris which are layered then stitched together using the threads withdrawn from the sari border. Running stitches are used throughout and through all the layers of fabric, with coloured threads depicting animals, people, plants and motifs. The background is filled in with natural coloured threads.
This cushion was designed specifically for The Silk Route by Annwyn Dean.
