Refreshed website launched Autumn 2020
On 22nd October 2020 we refreshed our website using more up-to-date software. Apart from the ‘new look’ this allows you to view and order our products from tablets and mobile phones as well as computers. As we have changed software you will no longer be able to view orders placed through the ‘old system’ before 22d October 2020. In addition, we have been unable to transfer your customer details either.
We are keen to learn from feedback from our customers, so if you have any problems or comments on the use of this site please let us know.
Meantime, here are a few answers to some questions.
Why can’t I order fabric by fractions of a metre?
In line with many other on-line shopping systems, the software used will not handle decimal places. We have set up standard sizes (cut pieces, fat quarters, half metres, etc.) and you can also order ‘off the roll’. However, ‘off the roll’ orders have to be in multiples of whole metres (e.g. 1 metre, 2 metres, 3 metres, etc.).
To order parts of metres, if you can meet your requirements by using our standard size variants (e.g. 1.5 metres) order the separate sizes online and ask for them to be cut in 1 piece in the ‘Special instructions’ box at checkout.
Should you wish to order lengths that are neither the set cut sizes nor a whole number of metres you will, unfortunately have to order by the ‘old’ way (telephone or email).
Are payments through the Silk Route on-line shopping facility secure?
We use the facilities of Stripe to process our On-line shopping transactions. Stripe provides secure payment services that fully meet the international Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards. Stripe does not pass any of your card details to us, other than the data passed back to us as part of the payment process including the last 4 digits of the card used for payment and the fact that payment has been authorised.
Why do I need to open an account with you?
Having an account with us speeds up the process of placing further orders (you do not need to type all your details in every time you order) and allows you to see the history of what you have ordered in the past using this website. Unfortunately, you will no longer be able to see orders placed using the ‘old’ software.
However, you do not need to open an account with us. If you do not open an account you will have to enter in all your name and address details every time you place an order and you will not be able to view what you have previously ordered. However, we will still record the details of the order placed, including your name and address, for our accounting and audit requirements.
I cannot proceed to the Payment screens
If, after choosing ‘Checkout’ and you are at the screen headed ‘Checkout’ and you press the ‘Place Order’ button and the system does not proceed to the Payment screen, but reverts to the ‘Checkout’ screen then you have probably not clicked on the ‘I have read and agree to the website Terms and Conditions’ box near the bottom. Click on the ‘I have read and agree to the Terms and Conditions’ box and then click on the ‘Place Order’ button again. Your order should then go to the WorldPay payment screens. If it does not, you have probably omitted to complete one of the mandatory fields (indicated with a red *). Please complete all mandatory fields which have been highlighted. Your order should then proceed to the secure WorldPay payment process.
Please note that the card payment companies are now requiring the expiry date to be entered in the format of MMYYYY so an expiry date of 08/23 should be entered as 08 2023.
